Amazon is introducing the capability to generate AI-generated images on Fire TV devices, with the feature now available in the U.S. for users possessing a second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Omni QLED Series. The new functionality on Fire TV is powered by Amazon’s Titan Image Generator, unveiled at the AWS re:Invent 2023 conference in November. Similar to other image generators such as Stability AI and OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, the Titan model transforms a written prompt into an image.
Notably, the Fire TV AI feature is activated through voice commands to Alexa using the TV remote, allowing users to create images using their voice. For example, users can say, “Alexa, create a background of a fairy landscape,” triggering the generation of four images that can be customized further with various artistic styles like impressionistic, watercolor, and fantasy. Once a final image is chosen, users can save and set it as their TV background.
While the Titan model offers the capability to customize existing images, the Fire TV’s feature will not possess this capability at its initial launch. Amazon did not provide an update on when users might gain the ability to input personal photos into the generator.
The image generator is integrated into the Fire TV Ambient Experience, transforming the TV into a smart display with backgrounds created by artists or personal photos sourced from an Amazon Photos account. This experience was initially introduced to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max and has already been available in Amazon’s Omni Series lineup of Fire TVs.
During Amazon’s 2023 devices event, the company unveiled several updates related to Fire TV. This includes enhanced voice search capabilities that enable users to ask Alexa more specific questions, such as finding titles based on cast, directors, genres, or even describing a scene from a movie.
Today’s announcement also comes on the heels of Amazon introducing three new generative AI-powered Alexa experiences, including playing the “20 Questions” game, speaking with AI characters and creating custom songs.
